Police have arrested an Ontario man for an alleged “public safety incident” involving a gun that led to an apartment building being evacuated for safety reasons in Whitehorse’s Porter Creek area in late June.
As a result of an ongoing RCMP investigation, 24-year-old Jaidyn Young has been charged with pointing a gun, carelessly using a gun, possessing a weapon for dangerous means, possessing weapons against an order and failing to surrender authorization, according to an RCMP press release issued July 2.
The incident took place on June 30 at around 8:30 a.m. when police got a complaint from the neighbourhood. Whitehorse RCMP officers “contained the scene and asked residents to leave the apartment building,” as noted in the release.
The release notes the critical incident program was triggered and the situation was safely resolved.
The News has requested more details about what happened on June 30, but Yukon RCMP communications won't elaborate as the investigation goes on.
Police said more charges are possible.
Young was being held in custody pending a July 2 court date, per the release.
