Big Brothers Big Sisters of Yukon has urged the City of Whitehorse to find a way to save the soon-to-be extinct bowling alley.

Mad Trappers Alleys, Whitehorse’s only bowling alley, located in Riverdale, is set to close this spring.

The five-pin, 10-lane alley opened in 1976.

In an open letter to the mayor and council, executive director Harold Sher said the organization’s most important fundraiser, called Bowl for Kids Sake, raises over $20,000 per year. He’s urging the city to take over the alley’s operations.

“Bowling is a very popular activity for people of all ages, including several bowling leagues, and many organizations and businesses (use it) for special events,” he wrote.

Sher is scheduled to speak before council at the next regular meeting on Nov. 3.
