New Slims River bridge to be built

Slims River bridge will be replaced this summer at a cost of $14.25 million.

The bridge is located near Sheep Mountain at km 1702 of the Alaska Highway. It’s the last bridge to be replaced under the Shakwak agreement with the U.S. government. As such, the U.S. will repay the Yukon for the entire cost of the work.

Construction of the new bridge is expected to start in April.

Work on the project started last autumn with the assembly of a detour bridge. Contracts to supply steel and prepare the groundwork have already been awarded. Tenders to build the new bridge and remove the detour bridge are being reviewed.
