An American man died after his motorcycle hit a gravel section of the Alaska highway north of Burwash Landing on Saturday afternoon.

The 68 year-old, who has not been named until clearance is provided from the family, died after being thrown from his single passenger bike, RCMP officers from Beaver Creek said.

The driver was wearing a helmet and alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

The highway was under construction at the time.

There were no direct witnesses to the accident, but tourists arrived on the scene soon thereafter, said Cpl. Ben Sewell.

The US consulate has been advised of the death and are currently contacting the man’s next of kin.

His body has been transported to the Yukon’s coroner’s office in Whitehorse, said Sewell. (James Munson)
