A Whitehorse man who pushed a bylaw officer handing him a parking ticket has been charged with assault.

The 44-year-old man was being ticketed for leaving his trailer unhitched for more than two hours on Basswood Street, in Porter Creek, last June.

The man “became upset” and pushed the bylaw officer, said RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Don Rogers.

“It wasn’t necessarily a strike,” said Rogers.

The bylaw officer was not injured and went to call RCMP.

Hitting a bylaw officer is the same as hitting a full-fledged police officer, said Rogers.

“It’s no different than hitting me,” he said.

The man is scheduled to appear in court on December 9 under charges of assaulting a peace officer. (James Munson)
