Police officers investigate the scene of what appears to be a collision between an RCMP vehicle and a white pickup truck at the intersection of Hamilton Boulevard and Falcon Drive at around 4:30 p.m. on May 13.

Whitehorse RCMP say there’s “no further threat to the public” amid a large police presence in the city’s Granger area, according to a May 13 news release.

In the release, police were requesting that the public steer clear of the Granger area due to an “ongoing incident.” An update indicates the area has since re-opened to the public although alternate routes may need to be taken due to continued police activity in the area.

North and southbound lanes on Hamilton Boulevard are still closed to traffic between Falcon Drive and Lazulite Drive, per the update.

Yukon RCMP have so far released limited information about the situation in the Granger area.

“Additionally, if you see a male with a dark hoodie carrying a red bag – do not engage, call 911 immediately,” reads the news release, which indicates more information will be released as it becomes available.

Based on the News’ observations, police were present at the intersection of Hamilton Drive and the south end of Falcon Drive. There appears to have been a collision between an unmarked RCMP SUV and a white pickup truck.

The News witnessed other police vehicles in the area and RCMP officers investigating the scene.

Meanwhile, City of Whitehorse bylaw officers were directing traffic on Hamilton Boulevard to detour around the crash site via Falcon Drive.
