Whitehorse’s Friday night bus service will roll on, saved by a last-minute funding injection to Whitehorse’s operations and maintenance budget.
The service - Whitehorse’s only evening service - was slated to be cut due to “low ridership.” At the time, transit manager Dave Muir estimated that elimating the service would save the city $56,000 per year.
At a February 9 public hearing, more than a dozen transit users gathered to protest the proposed cut.
On Monday night, council voted to increase transit expenses by $77,200 for 2009.
