The evacuation alert for the Village of Mayo and the surrounding area in place since June has been rescinded.
According to an email from the Yukon government's emergency measures organziation, the alert for the Village of Mayo, First Nation of Na-Cho Nyäk Dun C6 Sub-division, Keno City, Km 28 to 108 on the Silver Trail, Duncan Creek Road and Minto Lake Road is no longer in place as of 11:45 a.m. on July 5.
The order had been in place due to concerns around the Roaring Fork Fire but according to the government notice, risks have diminished due to more favourable weather, rainfall and efforts to contain the fire by wildfire crews.
The fire, located along the Minto Lake Road 15 km north of Mayo is still considered out of control and sits at approximately 687 hectares in size. According to the government wildfire hub, a bulldozer is working on widening the Minto Lake Road and fire crews are identifying and extinguishing hot spots.
