If there was ever a day for your dog to fall over a cliff, yesterday was it.

A 911 call came in at about 7:30 p.m. yesterday that a dog had fallen over the edge at the south end of Miles Canyon. The young pup managed to rescue itself from the water and climb up onto a ledge, said Whitehorse fire chief Kevin Lyslo. But it remained stranded at the foot of the cliff.

Fortunately the Whitehorse Fire Department was on the case. It turned out to be volunteer firefighter training night, so a total of 13 firefighters came to the scene.

After assessing the scene, one firefighter was able to repel down the rock, rescue the dog and return him to his grateful owner.
