Dawson Councillor Ashley Doiron has stepped down.

The councillor, who served almost four years in office, said she resigned from her position on Monday for personal reasons.

Doiron wouldn’t elaborate on what those reasons were.

“I’m not prepared to give comment at this time,” she said.

Doiron will be missed, said a fellow councillor, Wayne Potoroka.

“She was a really good councillor,” he said.

“Now we won’t have the benefit of having her insight and wisdom on council.”

As a councillor, Doiron tackled difficult issues and was the only councillor to have been re-elected this past fall, he added.

“She brought a lot of history and understanding to the table.

“As a returning councillor, Ashley ensured this council got off on the right foot by explaining past practice and the procedures council worked under.”

Next week council will meet to set a nomination date for electing a new councillor, said Potoroka.

Once the date has been set, a by-election will follow 30 days later.
