Yukon Emergency Medical Services is considering opening a second ambulance station at the top of Two Mile Hill where the former mine rescue station on Range Road used to be.

A retrofit to accommodate the ambulance crews is expected to cost $40,000.

The station would serve Porter Creek, Copper Ridge and Takhini as well as nearby country residential neighbourhoods.

Emergency Medical Services previously looked at incorporating the station at the city’s new public safety building and the city’s Fire Hall No. 2 station. However, a funding agreement couldn’t be struck between city and territorial officials.

The city votes next week on whether it will rezone the area to allow for the ambulance station.
