Whitehorse RCMP arrested nearly 50 people this weekend.

Many were hockey fans, said Sergeant Mark Groves.

During the weekend, the city hosted the annual Yukon Native Hockey Tournament, which drew people from around the Yukon and Northwest Territories.

All the city’s hotels were full, said Groves.

Police received more than 160 calls.

Most seriously, police on three occasions arrested people who were “grossly intoxicated” while operating a motor vehicle.

All three drivers were arrested without serious injury to themselves or others.

Others arrested face charges of assault, disturbing the peace, mischief and various Liquor Act infractions.

About one-quarter of those arrested were from out of town, said Groves. (John Thompson)
