Body of man found after kayaking accident

The body of an elderly man has been discovered in Lake Laberge.

Last night, at approximately 7 p.m., police responded to a call after a deceased elderly man was discovered floating in the waters of Lake Laberge, near the campground.

According to an RCMP news release, an investigation revealed the man’s kayak had overturned and he was not able to self rescue.

The man was from British Columbia and was paddling alone.

RCMP also issued a safety reminder to people travelling in the territory.

“Police wish to remind everyone that when travelling the Yukon wilderness and waterways one should be properly outfitted with supplies and self rescue equipment,” the statement read.

“Additionally one should also explore the back country within their experience and abilities.”

No foul play is suspected.
