Sidhu Trucking can now resume blasting operations at the Hamilton Boulevard Extension thanks to the Friday morning lift of an Occupational Health and Safety no-work order on the site.

The first blast is scheduled to take place on Saturday.

Work was halted after a botched blasting operation more than a month ago sent boulders cascading into the nearby Lobird subdivision.

Three primary safety procedures have been imposed to prevent a repeat of May’s incident, said program manager Jeff Boehmer.

“Smaller blasts, covered blasts and more guarding,” he said.

Whiteboards will now be installed at Lobird and the Yukon gardens informing people of upcoming blasts.

Guards will also be stationed in environmental areas to fire off horns prior to any blasting.

Already delayed for more than a month, the project could incur additional delays depending on the volumes of rock that can be blasted under the new provisions.

The full blasting report will soon be available in both hard copy form and online.
