Black bear dumped at the side of the highway

Yukon conservation officers are still on the lookout for the person who shot a bear and left the body in a bag on the side of the highway.

Yukon conservation officers are still on the lookout for the person who shot a bear and left the body in a bag on the side of the highway.

The adult male black bear was found on the side of the South Klondike Highway near Mosquito Road on July 20.

The adult bear had been dumped in an ore sack, said Environment Yukon spokesperson Melissa Madden.

“A necropsy was performed by our animal health unit and it was determined that the cause of death was a gunshot wound.”

The bear had been dead no more than two days, she said.

Officers investigated and conducted interviews but the suspected crime is still unsolved.

“Conservation officers ask that if the public has any details about this incident, to please report them to the TIPP line. All reports will remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward,” Madden said.
