Ever since Whitehorse’s committee of the whole started charging a tipping fee for residential refuse, the garbage has been piling up in the bush areas inside the city.

The old copper mill site off the Mount Sima road is a perfect example. Most of the trash is construction waste from renovations, appliances, yard waste, and even burned out cars. Some of it is household garbage in plastic bags, which the animals rip open and scatter.

When are you going to send out city crews to clean up the mess your garbage dump policies have caused? It’s inside city limits and it’s your responsibility to clean it up.

This would be a good thing to spend your ‘sustainability’ budget on instead of more studies. Perhaps this would be a good job for the sustainability manager.

I hope we see some action on this problem before the snow season makes it appear to go away. This will clean up the mess in the short term, however for the long term, you should consider waiving tipping fees for residential refuse on Saturdays.

Thank you for your attention to this problem.
