We need more women in all levels of government

Equal Voice is an organization that may not be well known in the Yukon, and as a member of its advisory board I would like to point out that folks can check our website to find the mission statement and join in the efforts to elect more women to all levels of government.

Equal Voice is an organization that may not be well known in the Yukon, and as a member of its advisory board I would like to point out that folks can check our website to find the mission statement and join in the efforts to elect more women to all levels of government.

Equal Voice was established in 2001 and aims to bring together women and men from all political parties to promote the election of women and promote electoral and institutional changes which would increase the numbers of women in politics and encourage women to run for office.

We are fortunate in the Yukon to have had many women elected at the territorial, federal and municipal level from all political parties, but there is always more to do.

At present only 25 per cent of the members of the federal Parliament are women. Equal voice aims to increase awareness about the need for gender-balanced government, as we believe that a real democracy must be a genuine partnership between men and women.
