In the summer of 2012 someone drove a car down a non-motorized narrow, sandy walking path alongside the sand cliffs adjacent to the north bank of McIntyre Creek where the creek drains into the Yukon River.
The car was pushed off the cliff in an attempt to dump it into the Yukon River. As luck would have it, the vehicle rolled off one lip of the sandy cliff, rolled over and landed on its roof on a cliff shelf below.
The vandal(s) returned a number of times attempting (unsuccessfully) to push the car off the cliff shelf. If they had been successful it would have landed in a part of the Yukon River where swans stop over to rest and feed in their annual migration. This area is also home to eagles, ravens and other waterfowl. The Yukon River and McIntyre Creek are both used by salmon.
City bylaw was contacted and they had the car removed this summer. It was not an easy recovery because of the location and the environmentally sensitive nature of the area where the vehicle was dumped. Friends of McIntyre Creek would like to thank Const. Kevin Hildebrand and other city employees for removing the vehicle.
