I noticed the headline for one of the letters to the editor: We Will Need Mining to Sustain Our Lifestyle. (The News, Nov. 9.)

Our current living arrangement with planet Earth, our “lifestyle,” is actually unsustainable. We actually can’t afford to have more growth on a finite planet.

We all will have to alter our lifestyles for humans and all the other living organisms to survive on this planet. It will not be easy or painless, but not making changes dooms us.

Mining cannot continue at its present growth. When you take away mining for military needs and an over-consumptive society, there wouldn’t be much mining in the Yukon at all. We need to get on with a plan that will allow us to survive on this planet.

Next election we need to vote for only those who won’t promise growth. Growth kills.
