Try giving up a meal

Open letter to the citizens of Whitehorse:

During Hunger Awareness Week, May 7 to 11, the Whitehorse Food Bank invites you to join in our efforts to help provide, promote and advocate for food security in our community. Each month, more than 1,200 people rely on our local food bank for emergency food and this number is increasing.

This year for National Hunger Awareness Week, we are asking Yukoners to “Give it up for hunger.”

It’s easy - three simple steps:

Give it up: Learn what it’s like to have food out of reach. Challenge yourself by giving up a meal and discover what it is like to go without food.

Give a shout: Share your experience by encouraging family, friends and colleagues to “give it up.” Go online and show your support via Facebook, Twitter or blogging.

Give it out: Donate food, funds, or your time to the Whitehorse Food Bank.

Everyone , “Give it up,”“Give a shout,” and “Give it out. “

For more information, please drop by the Whitehorse Food Bank or visit our website at www.whitehorsefoodbank.ca.
