I am writing in response to your September 23 article, Miners Dump on NDP.
The article was about the debate over increasing the royalty rate that hardrock and placer miners pay.
As a placer mine employee, I found the title very offensive.
Nowhere in the article did I read anything that would qualify as dumping on the NDP.
What I read was various view points from the NDP and the Yukon Chamber of Mines as to the validity of the rate increase. Since when is objecting to political decisions, or having a discussion about a proposed policy change called “dumping?”
Your title was a blatant attempt to make miners appear to be bullying and picking on the NDP.
As a miner who values the environment, recycles, grows my own food and lives as sustainability as possible, I am tired of reading articles and headlines that portray all miners as money grabbing, greedy, environmental destructionists!
That is not who I am, nor is that the people I know.
