I read John Thompson’s January 29th article Recycling in Raven’s Shadow with interest.

Although the article was somewhat misleading with regards to Raven receiving “cash infusions” from the territorial government, there is one very important issue that is reflected in Pat McInroy’s comments.

He highlights what every depot operator from Watson Lake to Beaver Creek knows Ð BCR depots voluntarily accept, sort, store, arrange for transportation and handle nonrefundable recyclables at a loss.

It is time for governments to pay the depots and processors across the territory a fair price for the service they provide. Relying on the goodwill and financial savvy of the provider of this important public service is no way to run a waste management system.
