An open letter to Yukon voters:
Let’s not vote this present Yukon Party government back in to power.
It’ll be a sad day for Yukon and future generations if this present governing party is re-elected.
Noting the little they did, the list quickly takes off on a downhill slide, starting with their lack of leadership or wisdom in energy and resource planning, to plans to give away our resources, likely including water, instead of leaving some for future generations.
They haven’t been ‘governing,’ instead, if not sleeping, then riding the ‘high horse’ on a market wave implying they somehow control the global economy. They had six years to act on housing issues à now more campaign promises!
Six-plus years and no heritage-type fund for non-renewable resources, no stash for 50 years ahead à resources being given away. Taking an arrogant position that they know best. Withholding info from citizens, and ignoring the many, many meetings where Yukon people have said, ‘Protect the Peel.’
The YP has been spending ridiculously on the Whitehorse jail. Wise leadership would not build a glass-fronted jail in the North. Instead, a no-brainer, would be to build an insulated wall for a smaller jail so much more money could be spent on proven programs in jails.
We’d be informed rather than misled, and it would of taken much, much less than six years to have household garbage burning stopped in our dumps.
The mining industry can stand on its own feet like they and other businesses have for decades in the North.
The Yukon Party’s actions shows no foresight to the future beyond the length of their noses.
It is time for a party with someone who has fresh ideas.
We can only get better with a team led by Liz Hanson.
