Today, downtown residents of Whitehorse do not have representation in the Yukon legislative assembly.

I have spent a lot of time talking with downtown residents on topics of concern to the Whitehorse Centre riding as part of my efforts seeking the Liberal nomination for downtown.

These concerns are numerous, wide in scope and variety, many requiring care and attention by our government and legislative assembly.

Spending time talking with residents here in the riding, and focusing exclusively on downtown issues, it is clear we need our own member of the legislative assembly now to represent our interests. Although there are common themes, there are also many differences between what we consider priorities here and those considered important in other ridings, whether in Whitehorse or elsewhere in Yukon.

Personally, I would like to add my voice to those who are respectfully requesting that Premier Dennis Fentie call a byelection soon.

We need representation in the fall sitting of the legislative assembly.
