As a resident of Whitehorse Centre and a former Yukon member of Parliament, I would like to say why I support Liz Hanson for my MLA.

I have known Hanson for 30 years, her professionalism and knowledge of the issues has continued to impress me. As a former elected politician, I know that it takes strength of character, commitment, hard work and a true caring for people to enter the political field, and she has all of these qualities.

I have watched Hanson and her husband Doug raise two impressive daughters, both of whom have finished university and are now making their contributions as socially and environmentally involved young women.

Hanson understands what the challenges of parents are today.

I want someone as my MLA who truly understands, not just the issues in the constituency but who also understands the Yukon and to follow the example of Todd Hardy, our former representative, who worked for all Yukoners regardless of where they lived.

Hanson understands the importance of good governance, transparency and honesty with the public. She has managed multimillion-dollar budgets and, at the same time, understands the struggles which ordinary families deal with on a daily basis.

Hanson has experience in the sectors that matter to Yukoners. She understands mining and the environment and believes that we can do both sustainably; she also believes that our future lies in a diversified economy; she has worked with all First Nations; is an active volunteer and understands how governments work and the negotiation that is needed to further the interests of all Yukoners.

Finally, I support Hanson because I know that her decision to enter politics was not for personal power, but because she has seen the effects of both good and bad government policy firsthand and she comes to politics with an open heart and an open mind because she wants to make a difference. And I believe she can.

I know that Hanson, if elected, will be a representative of whom we can all be proud.
