Every year I say I’m going to do this. Yet, every year I fail to do so. This year I am doing it. What is it you say? It involves thanking all the organizers, volunteers, and sponsors of the Marsh Lake Loppet. It is a wonderful event and one I look forward to every year.
Yes, it is great getting a good workout on the 20-km course. Yes, it is great to enjoy a different and beautiful trail network. Yes, it is great to see so many people of all ages enjoying the wonderful activity of cross-country skiing, a sport that most people can experience for their entire life.
However, what I enjoy the most is to watch the youngest competitors receive their participant ribbons. Some are shy. Some are full of enthusiasm. All will be happy to add to or start their collection of little treasures that will find an honoured location on a fridge door, or in a pink or blue bedroom.
It is an event such as this that strengthens our community in so many ways. Thanks again to all the sponsors, volunteers, and organizers. Your efforts are most appreciated!
P.S. My draw prize this year was a case of synthetic motor oil from Dall Contracting. It just so happens that my car runs on synthetics. Thanks for supporting the event.
