Open letter to Brad Cathers, minister of community services:

I wish to thank the Yukon government for providing a new fire truck and at last activating the civic address system for the community of Tagish, both of which are an important contribution to the well-being and safety of the community.

The civic address system has been requested by emergency services, including the RCMP and Tagish’s advisory committee, for many years, to assist in the pressing need to locate properties quickly and accurately.

It was originally promised by then-minister Glenn Hart. He stated that the civic numbering system would be in place in Tagish by December 2006. I sincerely hope that other rural Yukon communities do not have to wait quite so long for the implementation of a life-saving address system in their region.

I thank our MLA, Mr. Kevin Barr, for his tireless efforts to keep this matter active in the government’s agenda. It has been a bonus year for Tagish, with reactivated CBC coverage, a new fire truck, a new well, and the long-awaited civic numbers.

We thank you most sincerely for showing an increasing concern for the safety of our community.

Richard and Dorothy Martin

Tagish
