Open letter to F. H. Collins Secondary students regarding the letter they received from the speaker of the Yukon Legislative Assembly:
The Yukon Teachers’ Association would like to express our pride and support for your decision to use the democratic process to voice your concern and frustration at the prospect of being without a gymnasium for two years. We commend you, as would our forebears who fought for the freedom of speech, in taking this action.
We sincerely hope you will be successful in convincing our political leaders of the ramifications this oversight may have on the physical and mental well-being of you and your peers.
I understand from those present on the day of your protest, the mature manner in which you conducted yourselves exceeded the standard of behaviour often seen from some members of the legislative assembly.
Your involvement in the political process of our territory has reaffirmed the faith we have in you and your principled commitment to democracy and social justice.
