Open letter to Whitehorse City Council:
You must be aware that Whitehorse receives a majority of the federal transfer payment. By renaming First Avenue to Front Street, you are intentionally competing with Dawson City.
Tourists don’t exactly know which community they are in and where the attractions are… “We’re in Watson Lake, where’s the S.S. Klondike?” comes to mind.
Any advertising that bears the words “Front Street” will automatically create confusion between Whitehorse and Dawson. This is a very underhanded move by council.
Please think of renaming the street, else you will be directly competing against another Yukon community.
