Stand up for Spruce Hill

Last week in the house, Mr. Cardiff asked the government what it plans to do to protect the residents of Spruce Hill and Golden Horn.

The mineral exploration company Arcturus Ventures plans on drilling in the area in March. It’s on its website. Mr. Rouble’s answer, or nonanswer, seems to rely on existing legislation but he doesn’t seem to understand that mining companies are allowed to drill without permit or go through YESAB until they have reached a certain threshold.

They can cut down trees up to four inches in diameter, put in a helicopter pad, use explosives and drill É all without a permit.

Spruce Hill was staked seven years ago. I think it’s about time we changed the law and stopped allowing free-entry within municipal boundaries.

It’s about time the government stands up for its residents. It’s about time the government starts protecting what we have. If this government can’t protect its residents, it’s about time for a new government.
