Open Letter to Mayor Buckway and Council:

On June 25, the Utilities Consumers’ Group wrote you a letter regarding union negotiations, management contracts and mayor/council increases in wages.

To this date there has been no response offered.

We now read in the city ad that on Monday you will vote to give yourselves a CPI equivalent yearly increase in remuneration for those elected for the next mandate. From the media reports, at least four of this regime are seeking re-election.

How can you expect the union and/or the management to accept anything less?

You do not seem to understand that citizens working in the private sector are being laid off, given less work time or having to partner in work (share the job), no jobs available except in the lower-payed service industry, etc., etc. Times are hard for some people!

You also seem to forget that this municipal council has consistently raised our taxes and utility fees every year of its mandate.

Yet you now have the gall to offer yourselves a raise!
