Shame on the Yukon News

On April 13, you put this headline on the front page of the News, Rigpigs Denied Trough, which totally insulted over 40,000 Canadian workers - men and women, young men and ladies, mothers, fathers and grandfathers.

On April 13, you put this headline on the front page of the News, Rigpigs Denied Trough, which totally insulted over 40,000 Canadian workers - men and women, young men and ladies, mothers, fathers and grandfathers.

These are people working in a valuable industry, bringing energy to the Yukon so Yukoners can drive their Skidoos, SUVs and trucks and heat their homes and dig for gold. How can a newspaper in a territorial capital city in progressive Canada use a derogatory, insulting slur to define a group of Canadian people?

How can your newspaper use a term, which Nazi Germany used to get the masses to believe one group of people were not humans or less than human and justified killing six million of them?

For example, put this same word “pig “with any one of the following and watch the reaction: German immigrant, environmentalist, French, 5th grader, Muslim, Jewish, Filipino or any other identified group of people and you now have a human rights and dignity abuse on your hands.

It is no different for a group of hard-working, taxpaying Canadians who make an honest living in the energy industry. This is just plain and simply wrong.Shame on your newspaper. Shame to any Yukoner who uses this term. This is Canada. You are Canadians.

Why turn the clock back 70 years and make yourselves look like the buffoons of the century? This is a human dignity abuse, an abuse of freedom of speech and an open door for a class action lawsuit, which should put your newspaper out of business. Shame on the Yukon government for not speaking up and standing up for what is right. Shame on any Canadian-Yukoner who does not speak up and end this garbage. An energy worker for over 30 years, I am proud of the industry.
