My son will be going into Grade 1 in September; school registration is on April 6th. I have spent the last two weeks phoning, leaving messages and e-mailing every single contact I could find in order to find out what school my son needs to be registered in.

I finally got my response today and based on our area it’s Takhini Elementary, which is not even close to being the closest school to our home.

Furthermore, Takhini practises segregated classrooms, meaning boys and girls are split. I strongly disagree with this philosophy. It is not appropriate for my child and I am not sending him to that school.

So my only other option is to attempt to get him into a different school and forfeit our need for him to take the bus, which isn’t an option for us Ð we need bus access. So, at this point I’m being forced to send my child to a school that has practices that go against our family beliefs and the best interest of my six-year-old child.

Should it not be my choice whether to send my son to that kind of program? It’s my choice if he goes to a religious or French school. I am severely disappointed in our education at this time, and beyond saddened my child is being forced into an unhealthy environment for him.
