Over the years I have revised the raven plate several times, but it always had an awkwardness because the four-bolt pattern restricted the design.
Today new cars are coming out with two licence-plate bolts and I have yet to find a car with the old four-bolt pattern actually use four bolts. By eliminating the bottom two bolts a more natural shape emerges and the stance and shape of the legs is more readily identified as a Raven.
I am proposing this design not as a replacement for the existing plate, but as a designer plate in addition to our present plate.
I feel the design would create interest in the Yukon and have a beneficial effect on tourism.
Presently Nunavut is developing a new-shaped plate for that territory. The NWT plans to retain the polar-bear-shaped plate and the Yukon is the only territory without a unique-shaped plate.
I am submitting this design to all candidates in this election and hope they will support this distinctive new plate as an alternative for Yukon drivers.
The plate is black and gold, the official colours of the Yukon a reflection of our gold rush history with black sand and gold dust.
The Klondike further points to our gold rush history.
The Raven is the official bird of the Yukon and, therefore, an ideal shape for this territory.
The design is unique in that the edge beading will intrude a bit into the plate to further define the wing and give it depth, as well as expand to define the legs.
