I am writing on behalf of Lucas Yuill and his family. Lucas is a cheerful, active eight-year-old who enjoys hockey, horseback riding, fishing and playing with his brothers. Lucas also has cerebral palsy, a movement disorder that affects all four of his limbs. He uses a custom-adapted walker as well as a power wheelchair to be mobile and participate in physical activity.

On Saturday, Nov. 19, the Yuill’s minivan caught fire; the van Ð along with Lucas’ walker Ð was destroyed. Although the vehicle and the walker are covered by insurance, the insurance will not cover the total cost of the van. On Saturday, Dec. 17, we will be holding two fundraisers to help cover the extra costs of purchasing a new enter van with a built-in wheelchair conversion which would allow Lucas and his wheelchair to easily get in and out of the vehicle.

As part of the fundraising event we will be having a silent auction. We would greatly appreciate any support you are able to give. Thank you for considering our request. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me at 633-6164 or 334-4545 or Ashley Fraser at 335-1520. Monetary donations can also be dropped off at Scotia Bank, account number 709200011029.

Also we would love to extend an invitation for you to attend one or both fundraising events. On. Dec. 17 there will be a sushi lunch and silent auction in the basement of the United Church from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. as well as a karaoke night and silent auction at the Boiler Room at the Yukon Inn starting 7 p.m.
