Recently I travelled to the island of Maui, a spot many Yukoners enjoy heading to to escape the winter blues. It was my second time to the island, my first being in 2007.
We all know of the economic downturn that devastated the United States economy in late 2008. To my surprise, this is evident even on this island holiday paradise in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Many stores, outlets and markets were closed and empty, and restaurants that you would have to wait hours to get into were now barely half-full.
This is just another reminder of how lucky we Canadians are.
Here in the Yukon, we continue to not only avoid a declining economy, but to grow it.
Regardless of your own political stripes and ideologies, we can all be proud of the work our various levels of government have done to allow Canada to weather this global economic crisis.
