I wish to express my respect and admiration for the Porter Creek Secondary School class of 2014.

As father of graduating student Aimee Lien, it was naturally thrilling to witness her momentous occasion. But what touched me beyond words was the students’ rising together when Aimee received her diploma.

Aimee was born with Down’s syndrome which presents her with challenges different than those facing most students. Her upbringing and the support she has received growing up in Whitehorse has bestowed her with confidence and determination to be her best. This support and camaraderie was supremely demonstrated during the graduation ceremony.

The graduates’ unified standing ovation not only honoured Aimee for her special accomplishment. It was also a testament to this class’ quality of character and of those who have shepherded them into adulthood.

Thank you, PCSS class of 2014, for showing us what a “class act” truly looks like.
