Open letter to MP Ryan Leef:
As the representative of the Yukon territory, I feel it is your duty as our MP to uphold and even strengthen environmental regulatory oversight. I understand that you are not going to vote against bill C-38 as a whole but, now that many amendments are being reviewed as I write, you have an opportunity to truly do the right thing and at least vote against the parts of the bill that lessen and weaken our country’s environmental laws.
Please, Ryan, for the sake of our children’s future, stand up and be a hero, vote for at least one of the amendments. I have met you, you are a good person. You care about the wilderness that makes the Yukon one of the most special places on the planet.
You say that we need this bill to help our economy. Please remember that we have no economy when we cannot drink our water, eat our fish or trust our air.
