Conservative MP Peter MacKay has spent taxpayers’ money by sending out what people think are free flyers, directed to Yukon residents to smear the record of Yukon MP Larry Bagnell.

First and foremost, the supposed free mailouts Yukon residents are receiving from Conservative MPs, such as the misinformation recently sent out by MacKay, is by no means free.

The printing and mailing has cost the taxpayers millions of tax dollars, of which MacKay has spent $42,837 this year.

MacKay stated in his flyer to the Yukoners that: “Your member of Parliament, Larry Bagnell, worked to support the registry and end the amnesty. Is that the support you expect from your local MP?”

The fact is that when the last vote was called to get rid of the “long gun registry,” nothing to do with handguns, Bagnell voted to get rid of the registry as requested by many Yukon residents.

The accusation by MacKay that Bagnell did not support the wishes of the Yukon to “get rid of this wasteful, costly registry” is absolutely false, and MacKay needs to publicly apologize to Bagnell and Yukoners for sending such false accusations through the mail.

I might add that recently, when I was in the Toronto area at a function (nonpolitical), I happened to be talking with Conservative MP Peter Van Loan, and he said that he had a great deal of respect for our MP as he was an honest and hardworking member working for the people of the Yukon.
