The motion to study when life begins got shot down in parliamentary flames

For all the talk about the wonder and glory of modern science, now we are against studying something because of the political implications?

Today I am personally ashamed of every single member of Parliament who voted against this motion: 91-203. It is clear enough for everyone to see how completely self-serving these votes are. Apparently you would march right over a pile of screaming babies to reach your glorious positions of power.

And what of our desire for getting at the facts? Don’t we moderns put a lot of stock in what science teaches, proudly throwing old, out-dated religious myths out the window? Yet when faced with a little bit of science, which might negatively impact our lives and culture, we toss the science?

Your voting against this motion will not, can not quiet this issue as you suppose. The debate will rage on and on because it cannot die. Let’s remember yet again the difference between a great statesman and a great politician: The statesman creates public opinion and the politician merely responds to public opinion.
