I attended the Dawson City Music Festival this past weekend and what a disgrace!
Dawson City ought to be ashamed. The festival has become a mecca for underage drinking and all the broken bottles and vomit that goes with it.
I was born in the Yukon and have attended festivals in the past. It used to actually be about the music.
In the washroom at Gerties is a syringe container à I guess so the junkies can shoot up in comfort. Shame!
There is a campaign to shut down a mine in city limits as a woman bought her home next to it and is now having buyer’s remorse. The city jumped all over that: council meetings, the mayor got involved, court actions, etc.
Heaven forbid, a mine in the mining town of Dawson City. Yet the vandalism, violence and youth drunkenness is alright.
Seems kinda wrong to me.
Perhaps the festival should find money for extra security to aid the RCMP and relocate the event outside the city, as I’m sure the local residents aren’t crazy about this mess happening right in their front yards either.
