I have just recently moved up to Whitehorse from Edmonton. We arrived on July 10.

Since then, I have been looking for a place to live. We, my four children and I, have lived in my mother’s apartment (camping on her livingroom floor), we have stayed at the women’s shelter and for the past month we have been camped at the Robert Service Campground.

We have searched for an affordable place to rent and there is just nothing.

Between myself and the other 20 to 30 people viewing a suite, I fall to the bottom of the list, usually due to the number of children I have.

I have heard that the government of the Yukon intends to house the occupants of tent city, but what about the tenants of various campgrounds?

I know there are other campers in the same position as I find myself in, and some of them hold down jobs at the same time. The nights are getting colder, three of my children are returning to school - now what?
