Open letter to Peter Clark, chief superintendent of the RCMP’s “M” division in Whitehorse:

I would like to congratulate you on your decision to cancel the proposed television show. As you are aware, there was considerable negative reaction to a reality show.

I understand that the goal was to show what the RCMP does on a daily basis. Let me say that I, and I think many other citizens, know the wide spectrum of situations that the force must deal with, including safety issues as well as criminal activities. It is my observation that policing in this jurisdiction presents many challenges.

On a personal note, I have always supported the work of the force and while there have been tragic circumstances in Whitehorse, I believe that there have been steps taken to redress these situations. I understand that as well there have been a number of attempts to engage local groups, which is a very positive initiative.

Your decision to cancel this show in response to community concerns does far more to enhance the respect for the RCMP than any television show might do. Thank you and I wish you well in your challenging work.
