My discussion with Roxanne Stasyszyn was fairly represented in her Oct. 5, 2012, story “Dump dominates Dawson’s mayoral race.” Unfortunately, during our conversation we did get our wires crossed on one thing: I do not support increased property taxes for individuals unwilling to restore historic buildings.
There is room for the town to introduce positive ways for encouraging conservation and rehabilitation of historic properties, including reduced development fees and graduated tax relief for historically sensitive construction. But increased property taxes is not one of them.
