Open letter to Jim Kenyon, minister responsible for Yukon Housing and Yukon Energy corporations:
As a continuation of our one-way discussion: the Utilities Consumers’ group has still not received any response from you or your department on the many energy issues of concern, including this one:
We read with great interest in the News of February 12 that Yukon Housing Corporation has a new low-cost condo for sale at the Garden Syde in downtown Whitehorse. What captured our interest is that this ‘green’ government-invested project has six units purchased by the housing corporation and at least this particular unit is advertised for sale at $205,000 and has, guess what? Electric baseboard space heating.
Now your government is preaching non-use of residential electrical space heating because you assert we have a sometime-shortage of hydro and Yukoners need to learn how to conserve or we will have to burn more diesel.
Yet it is OK for a government-sponsored ‘green’ project to use such infrastructure?
We are speechless for a term to use for this, but I guess what would be most appropriate is hypocritical.
It would appear, to a bystander, that your departmental counterparts do not have any co-ordination of program implementation, or you are not directing.
What is going on in your portfolio?
Again, please respond to your constituents.
