I want to thank Jan Stick, of the New Democratic Party, for addressing the situation of mice in Christ the King Elementary School. Her courage in bringing this to the attention of the legislature is refreshing.

Rodents, especially mice, have faced systemic discrimination for millennia. We’ve been swept away, hunted by trained predators, trapped, drowned, poisoned and gassed. PETA won’t let us into their offices for a friendly chat. Yet somehow we’ve survived, even thrived.

Life is tough, even more so in these modern times when it’s impossible to earn a decent living without an education. Minnie and I are fortunate in having rewarding careers in cinema, but few get the breaks we had. Yet, with access to education, rodents can achieve much. Look at Sparky Squirrel’s amazing accomplishments in electrical engineering!

We are grateful for the inclusiveness displayed by the teachers and administrators at Christ the King Elementary School in opening their hearts and doors to a small visible minority.

Since Christ the King is a Christian school, a scripture quote is appropriate: “And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’”

Thank you, and Merry Christmas to all.
