Letters from around the world can save lives

Letters from around the world can save lives I felt I had to write in response to the many letters, petitions and outpourings of concern from people across Canada and around the world regarding a death sentence Ð for a dog. Indeed, letters can save live

I felt I had to write in response to the many letters, petitions and outpourings of concern from people across Canada and around the world regarding a death sentence Ð for a dog.

Indeed, letters can save lives as demonstrated by Amnesty International (www.amnesty.org). Groups of concerned individuals come together to write letters to foreign governments to help protect people who are also facing death threats. The concern that is expressed through letters from Canadian citizens adds up and in many cases saves lives or frees political prisoners. It takes persistence, but in one-third of cases, the efforts have led to positive results.

The Whitehorse chapter of the Amnesty writing circle meets monthly in the basement of the United Church (notices are posted in the Coming Events); everyone is welcome to come and put forth efforts to save some human lives.
