For over 10 years, as the artistic director of Yukon Educational Theatre, I had many occasions to work with Gilles Lapres and I would like to take a moment to remember him and his help in such events as Burning Away the Winter Blues, Winterval and the Celebration of the Harvest.
A particular moment stands out: we are both chopping away with axes at a bad patch of ice in Robert Service campground, trying to ensure a safe path for the event. I am there with all my heart because this is my event; Gilles is there, not only in his capacity with Parks and Recreation of the City of Whitehorse, but he is there with all his heart, because he knows the event, he knows the people, he knows how much it means to people and he wants things to be safe and to go well.
Gilles’ personal touch and sincere willingness to help were of great support to me over the years and he will be greatly missed.
