My good friend Otto Blattler, of Dawson City, sent me an old photograph of his late wife Pia and son Eric (top left), which was taken more than 30 years ago at the South Fork Intake on the Klondike River. This photo of Eric and his mom was taken on June 20, 1965. Eric now works as a mechanic in Dawson City.

Otto mentioned that, in the fall of the year, when slush started running at the South Fork Intake at the end of the ditch, a dozen guys worked 24 hours a day with a paddle, pushing slush back into the river. The above cabin was one of the few in the area that workers lived in.

Thanks to Otto Blattler for his photograph and information.

By the way, Otto is a long time Dawsonite and a wonderful carver. People cherish his work.
