Re: Physician, heal thyself (the News, March 1)

The premise of your editorial is that because Vanier Catholic Secondary School does not align itself with Yukon Department of Education policy regarding same-sex relationships it has no right to receive public funding. You hold to this premise notwithstanding that this Catholic school provides an invaluable service in educating Yukon students.

It follows then, that because the editorial positions of the Yukon News are not always in line with Government of Yukon policy, the Yukon News should be cut off from all the revenue it earns from the multitude of classified advertisements the Yukon government routinely places in your newspaper.

Should every organization have to pass an ideology test to receive government funding? Do we all have to think the same thoughts and hold to the same values or risk being chased from the public square?

Finally, your reference to living in the “1950s” is too shortsighted. The Catholic Church has held to these same values for over 2,000 years, and counting.
